Liverpool are to sign Tottenham forward, Jermaine Defoe, in a surprise move. With Peter Crouch surplus to requirements, the Liverpool manager, Rafael Benitez, is keen to bolster his striking options. Benitez believes Defoe is the ideal foil for superstar, Fernando Torres. The Liverpool manager will make Defoe a take–it–or–leave–it offer of £40 k a week.
